Bullets Crowned 2005 SLPL
Champ; Other Winners Announced
OCTOBER
27, 2005 â Jim Cummingsâ
Washingtino Bullets â the perennial also-rans
that until this season defined the phrase âperennial
also-ransâ â were crowned
the 2005 Overall Champ of the Santa Lechuga Power League Wednesday
night. âWeâre happy for Jim
and for his Bullets,â said SLPL Commissioner
Rube Furrow. âNo team has been so bad for so
long and come back to win in such dramatic fashion. Except, of
course, the White Sox.â
The Bullets, who until this year lounged
around near the bottom of the pack in each of their first several
years in the league, outlasted Aaron Pankokeâs
The Strokes, the Regular Season Champs who were hoping to become
the first repeat SLPL Champ. âI feel bad for
Aaron,â the new champ Cummings said. âI
know heâs a huge Cubs fan, I know he didnât
want Konerko because he didnât want a White
Sox on his team, and I know heâs hurting bigtime
today because the White Sox won it all while he lost the SLPL
championship because he didnât have Konerko.
But he canât be too upset â¦
he won as much money as I did.â Both Cummings
and Pankoke won $700 for their championships.
